I am a resident of Pico Rivera, and like many others in our community, I own an RV. Recently, I've been fined by the city for parking my RV on my property, even though it does not obstruct any sidewalk or public walking space. This incident highlights an outdated city ordinance that mandates setback restrictions for RV parking on private property.

Many of us in Pico Rivera have invested in RVs to enjoy adventures and quality time with our families. However, the current setback provisions hinder our ability to conveniently and securely park our RVs on our own properties. The setback rule requires RV owners to maintain a specific distance between their parked RVs and any property boundaries, which often makes it difficult or impossible to park them at all. As a result, numerous residents face fines and the inconvenience of having to find alternative parking solutions that are often costly and inconvenient.

By revising this ordinance and permitting RV owners to park their vehicles on cement-based areas in the front, side, or rear of their homes, without adhering to the current setback requirements, we can ensure that residents can enjoy their property rights responsibly. This change would support the RV community, boost local tourism by encouraging RV ownership, and provide a sense of peace and security for residents who wish to have their recreational vehicles close to home.

Pico Rivera values community and growth. We urge the city council to modernize these setback regulations to reflect the evolving needs of its residents. Other cities have recognized the importance of accommodating RV owners by updating their laws to better align with contemporary living and recreational activities.
