Allow residents of Nampa, ID to work from their garages

Allow residents of Nampa, ID to work from their garages
The Issue
My name is Michael Anderson, and I am a resident of Nampa, Idaho. I am writing this petition not just for myself but for many others in our community who face similar challenges. As someone living with a disability, finding suitable employment opportunities can be incredibly difficult. The ability to work from home, specifically from my garage, would provide me with the chance to contribute financially to my household and regain a sense of independence and dignity.
Working from one's own garage, whether it’s offering online services, running a small repair shop, or other legal and non-disruptive home-based businesses, can be a vital source of income for individuals who can't engage in traditional employment. This is especially true for disabled individuals, caregivers, and stay-at-home parents in Nampa who are looking for flexible work opportunities that suit their lifestyle and capabilities.
Currently, local restrictions prevent us from using our garages as viable working spaces. These restrictions not only limit our financial independence but also stifle entrepreneurship and innovation within our community. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 11.2% of residents in Canyon County have some form of disability. This means there are thousands of people like me who could benefit from the flexibility of working from home.
We propose that the City of Nampa amends these regulations to allow residents to operate small, low-impact businesses from their garages. These businesses could include online tutoring, consulting services, small crafts manufacturing, or other jobs that do not disturb neighborhood tranquility. By making this change, we would not only help individuals create sustainable livelihoods but also stimulate the local economy by encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.
We urge the Nampa City Council to consider amending these regulations to enable us to work from our garages. This change will empower many individuals to overcome barriers, support their families, and contribute positively to our community. Please sign this petition to advocate for the right to work from home without unnecessary restrictions. Together, we can foster a more inclusive and resilient Nampa, Idaho.
