I am a parent living in our bustling city. Like any parent, I want what's best for my kids, and that includes teaching them about nature and responsibility right in our backyard. However, our current city ordinances prevent keeping chickens within city limits. For us, chickens are not only about educating our children; they could also alleviate the burden of soaring egg prices, benefitting many families who are feeling the pinch. According to the USDA, the retail price for a dozen eggs has increased by roughly 37% from 2010 to 2020. In addition to the economic relief, chickens are eco-friendly, decreasing dependance on factory farms, and promoting a sustainable, organic lifestyle. By allowing chickens within city limits, we not only address economic challenges but also pave the way for an environmentally-aware generation.
