Allow phone use during included but not limited to study halls,9th period, and lunch

The Issue

The reason why this is personal to me is because at my school, I'm always trying to keep my grades up and I stay for 9th period often. But when 9th period is over, not everyone knows their parents' phone number by heart. Some of us can't walk home, and sometimes we forget to remind our parents to pick us up. This creates a problem when there are no office assistants around to help us contact our family.

Phones have become an essential part of communication for students, especially in circumstances where plans change suddenly. When study hall or 9th period ends, many students are left without a reliable method to communicate with parents or guardians. Ensuring students have access to their phones during these times can help alleviate the stress and confusion that often follows.

Currently, strict policies prevent us from using our phones during school hours unless it's an emergency. However, having the ability to contact our parents for a safe ride home or to update our schedules should be considered a necessary exception to these rules.

Schools can implement a structured policy where phone usage is allowed under supervision or for specific purposes such as contacting families. This change will not only help students like me who rely on such coordination but will also provide peace of mind to parents knowing their children can reach out if needed.

Join me in requesting that our school officials reconsider the current phone restrictions to allow phone use during study halls and 9th period. This small yet significant change can make a big difference in student safety and communication. Please sign this petition to support students' right to communicate with their families when necessary.
