Alex Johnston is a player that holds a special place in the heart of thousands of South Sydney Rabbitohs fans. A Rabbitohs junior, a 2014 premiership winner, a 3-time Ken Irvine medallist, and a dally-m winger of the year, ‘AJ’ has already had an incredibly accomplished career, playing all 234 of his NRL games so far in the cardinal and myrtle. But most importantly of all, he is an incredible bloke. He is humble, perseverant, and truly loves and cares for his south Sydney community.

Widely respected as one of the most underrated wingers of the past decade, he has quietly stormed towards the NRL’s all-time try scoring record. Our beloved ‘AJ’ stands just 7 tries away (at time of writing) from breaking Ken Irvine’s all-time record of 212 tries, set in 1973 and widely deemed untouchable. No one thought this record would ever be broken, especially in the NRL era. We are just a few games away from witnessing an unprecedented moment in rugby league history. 

It’s almost impossible to believe that AJ was on the verge of leaving the club. In 2020, he was told by Souths officials he was no longer needed. Fans were understandably outraged, and started an ultimately successful petition to keep AJ at the bunnies. Souths fans - we have done this once before. Let’s do it again.

Alex Johnston may achieve the impossible. This historic achievement deserves a momentous celebration. Fans should be allowed to celebrate AJ by storming the field. Such an action will cement this occasion as one of the greatest moments in rugby league history . This isn’t something unachievable, in fact, it was recently seen in 2022 when AFL legend Buddy Franklin kicked his 1000th goal. 

We propose coordination with match officials, club security, and relevant authorities to ensure this celebration is conducted safely. We believe an organised field surge can be achieved with the right planning and guidelines in place.
