Allow Melody to Play in the State Soccer Championship
The Issue
**Let Melody Finish What She Started: A Call for Fair Play in Middle School Soccer**
Melody is a 13-year-old female in the 8th grade at Trinity Christian School. She has been a dedicated member of the boys' middle school soccer team, putting her heart and soul into every match. She's been on the field in rain, shine, and everything in between, proving her skills and passion for the game. Melody’s commitment has been unyielding, and she has been an integral part of the team’s journey to the state finals.
Yet, when it comes down to the final, the most exciting game of the season, Melody has been told she can’t play. This decision seems arbitrary and unfair, especially since she's contributed equally, if not more, to the team's success. Melody has demonstrated that she can compete at this level. She’s played every match leading up to this moment, displaying not just talent but sportsmanship and teamwork.
According to a report by the Women’s Sports Foundation, girls who participate in sports are more likely to graduate high school and have higher self-esteem. Denying Melody the chance to play affects not only her but sends a discouraging message to other young female athletes. In a time when equality is emphasized in all aspects of our lives, it's imperative that we stand for inclusivity and fairness in private school sports.
Allowing Melody to participate in the state soccer game rectifies an injustice. You guys, we are not talking about gender roles in the professional sports. We are not standing for males to play in female sports, nor are we standing for female to play in male sports. However, because a female soccer team was not available for her due to not having enough girls interested in this sport at Trinity Christian School, she was allowed and welcome to play in the boy's middle school soccer team all season long up until the very end. Principle Mr. Sanders appealed once and was told no. He then stood up for her and appealed twice. We are in the middle of a stand for Melody because she is an individual who deserves and wants to play her final last game with her team.
Let's rally behind Melody to let her finish the season she helped build with her teammates. Support her right to compete by signing this petition and stand for her future where she has dedicated and poured her heart into. Win or lose, we don't care, let her play!
