The Issue

On October 24, 2026, a significant event will take place in Washington, D.C.: the dedication of the National Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial. This momentous occasion will honor the bravery and sacrifice of Gulf War veterans, each of whom played a critical role in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Veterans, families, and supporters will gather to pay tribute, but not everyone will be able to attend due to various constraints, including health issues resulting from their service.

For many Gulf War veterans, the service they provided came with long-lasting effects. The physical and psychological toll of their deployment means that attending this important dedication is not a possibility for all. We must recognize the reality of the situation our veterans face and find a way to connect them to this significant event.

The Gulf War Side Effects Podcast is an essential platform dedicated to telling the stories of these veterans and highlighting the challenges they continue to face as a result of their service. We, therefore, respectfully request that the National Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial dedication committee grant reasonable media access to the Gulf War Side Effects Podcast team. This access will allow them to document and share the ceremony with those who are unable to be physically present, ensuring that every veteran can be part of this dignified recognition from afar.

Recording and broadcasting the event through a trusted platform that specializes in Gulf War veteran experiences will bridge the gap for those unable to attend. It will provide a means of participation, allowing veterans to feel included and honored, no matter where they are located. Media access will serve as a vital connection to preserve the memories and emotions associated with the dedication.

We underline the importance of accommodating technologies and media access rights to support our veterans who sacrificed much for the nation. By embracing media coverage, we ensure their voices and experiences do not go unnoticed and unappreciated.
