The Issue

When the county of San Bernardino shut down local residents' opportunities for hip camp and low impact camping, it adversely affected countless families in our community. This abrupt change has stripped away the simple joy of immersing oneself in nature from several groups who cherished it deeply. Female solo travelers, families with small children, and couples who had previously found solace and safety camping on wild private land now find themselves with limited options. The closures have left them to choose between staying in expensive campgrounds or hotels, alienating them from the Desert landscape they love.

California's great outdoors has long been a place for reflection, adventure, and peace. Offering an affordable retreat from the hustle of urban life. The Southern California desert, with its serene beauty and unique ecosystems, should be accessible to everyone. Unfortunately, current restrictions have placed these landscapes out of reach for many. For people who have relied on low impact camping as an affordable means to connect with nature, these restrictions have been particularly burdensome.

Assembly Bill 518 provides a promising solution. It offers San Bernardino County the opportunity to opt into legislation that supports low impact camping. This bill aims to responsibly manage camping activities while protecting our cherished natural resources. By adopting AB 518, San Bernardino can balance environmental stewardship with the community's desire for more accessible outdoor experiences.

Let's urge our local representatives to support the adoption of AB 518. The bill ensures that low impact camping can be a lasting part of the San Bernardino experience. It promotes sustainable use and ensures that future generations can enjoy the same breathtaking landscapes that have offered so much joy to us.

By implementing this bill, we can reopen campgrounds to those yearning for genuine interaction with nature, without the financial burden of more costly accommodations. We aim to create an inclusive outdoor community where everyone can enjoy the splendor of our environment.

Join me in calling for a brighter future for the Southern California desert. Sign this petition and help us make low impact camping a reality again. Together, we can ensure that the desert's beauty is something everyone, from seasoned campers to first-time adventurers, can access and appreciate. Please sign and share this petition.
