This abrupt change has stripped away the simple joy of immersing oneself in nature from several groups who cherished it deeply. Female solo travelers, families with small children, and couples who had previously found solace and safety camping on wild private land now find themselves with limited options. The closures have left them to choose between staying in expensive campgrounds or hotels, alienating them from the Desert landscape they love.

California's great outdoors has long been a place for reflection, adventure, and peace. Offering an affordable retreat from the hustle of urban life. The Southern California desert, with its serene beauty and unique ecosystems, should be accessible to everyone. Unfortunately, current restrictions have placed these landscapes out of reach for many. For people who have relied on low impact camping as an affordable means to connect with nature, these restrictions have been particularly burdensome.

Assembly Bill 518 provides a promising solution. It offers San Bernardino County the opportunity to opt into legislation that supports low impact camping. This bill aims to responsibly manage camping activities while protecting our cherished natural resources.
