The Issue

Petition to:
City Council of Long Beach, New York

Petition Text:
Long Beach is a wonderful coastal community that many of us are proud to call home. However, current regulations prohibit dogs on the beach year-round, even during the quiet off-season months when the beach is largely empty.

We are asking the City Council to consider a reasonable and balanced solution: allow leashed dogs on the beach during the off-season (October through April).

Neighboring Atlantic Beach already permits dogs during these months, demonstrating that this approach can work successfully without negatively impacting the community. Many towns across Long Island and beyond have similar seasonal policies that promote responsible dog ownership while maintaining public safety and cleanliness.

Allowing dogs during off-season months would:

Support local residents and responsible pet owners
Encourage outdoor activity and community engagement
Have minimal impact due to lower beach traffic
Align Long Beach with nearby communities already implementing similar policies
We fully support reasonable guidelines such as leash requirements and strict cleanup rules to ensure the beach remains safe and clean for everyone.

We respectfully ask the City Council to revisit current restrictions and adopt an off-season dog policy that benefits both residents and the community as a whole.

Please sign this petition to support a common-sense, responsible solution for Long Beach.
