Allow Leashed Dogs in Waialae Iki Park

The Issue

We are calling on the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to allow LEASHED dogs in Waialae Iki Park. In April, DPR announced "a comprehensive change to improve access to community parks for responsible dog owners and leashed dogs". This petition was created in response to DPR's request for community input and will be submitted to the neighborhood board by the deadline of August 26th.
Allowing leashed dogs in Waialae Iki Park would not only ease congestion on the streets but also provide a safe and open environment for pets to exercise and socialize. Currently, there are 36 Honolulu parks that allow leashed dogs, and these have proven that with proper guidelines, dogs and people can coexist peacefully. This change would encourage stronger community interaction among dog owners and non-owners alike and create a more inclusive and welcoming socializing space for all. Dog walking is healthy for dogs and humans, both physically and emotionally.
Dog owners will be responsible for keeping their dogs leashed and cleaning up after their dogs. By signing this petition, we, the residents of nearby communities and park users, respectfully request DPR to allow our Leashed dogs in Waialae Iki Park. Sign this petition to help create a more vibrant and connected community.
