The Issue

It's a longstanding tradition in many schools around the United States for seniors to add personal flair and creativity to their graduation caps. I'm a senior at Kuna High School next year, and me and many of my friends have looked forward to this rite of passage and artistic expression. However, due to current school policies, we're unable to participate in this popular graduation tradition.

For a while, students have expressed their frustration over the restrictive rule against decorating graduation caps. This policy not only stifles personal expression but also dampens the celebratory spirit of a significant milestone in our educational journey. Graduation is a moment to celebrate individual achievements, unique personalities, and future endeavors, and our decorated caps are a way to proudly showcase who we are as individuals before taking our next steps in life.

Numerous high schools across the country have successfully allowed decorated graduation caps without any issues, and have made graduation ceremonies more colorful and meaningful for students and families alike. Allowing cap personalization at Kuna High School can be implemented with guidelines to ensure decorations are appropriate and do not detract from the dignity of the ceremony.

We are kindly asking the school board to reconsider this policy and allow us the opportunity to express our individuality and celebrate our accomplishments in a way that's both personal and safe. Please support us in bringing this change to our community by signing and sharing this petition. Together, we can create a more inclusive and joyous graduation experience in Kuna, Idaho.
