Allow keyboard and mouse support for console Rocket League

Allow keyboard and mouse support for console Rocket League
The Issue
As a lifelong keyboard player, I've always found using a keyboard and mouse far more natural than a controller. It's a preference that resonates with many Rocket League players who, like me, would be thrilled to use a keyboard and mouse on console versions of the game, even if it means altering matchmaking. Currently, Rocket League, developed by Psyonix and published by Epic Games, restricts console players to using controllers, limiting our opportunities to play the game with our preferred input devices. Personally,
Rocket League on Xbox should support mouse and keyboard because cross-play already puts Xbox players against PC players who can use any setup they want. Studies of high-ranked players show that a small but real group of competitive Rocket League players use keyboard, proving it’s fully viable at high levels. I used to play on PC with MNK because it gave me better control after a hand injury, but when I moved to Xbox to play with friends, I was forced onto a controller and immediately dropped in rank. Adding MNK wouldn’t give anyone an unfair edge—it would just let Xbox players use the input that works best for them.
The solution to this is straightforward and fair to all players: introduce a new setting that allows console players to enable keyboard and mouse support. This setting would seamlessly transition those who opt for it into the PC matchmaking pool. Such an option wouldn't disrupt the existing ranked and skill-based matchmaking system. Players would have the freedom to toggle this feature on or off based on their preferences.
This modification would enhance the gaming experience for many dedicated Rocket League players, providing a more comfortable and enjoyable way to engage with the game they love. Furthermore, it aligns with the growing trend of cross-platform gaming, embracing diversity of play styles and expanding player choices without compromising competitive integrity.
Allowing keyboard and mouse input on consoles would not only improve accessibility but also underscore Rocket League's commitment to innovation and inclusivity. By catering to the preferences of their player base, Psyonix and Epic Games have the opportunity to set a precedent for future gaming experiences across platforms.
We kindly urge Psyonix and Epic Games to consider this request and implement keyboard and mouse support for console Rocket League players. Let's make Rocket League more accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their preferred input method. Please sign this petition to show your support for this much-needed change.
