Due to the ongoing shortage of eggs in our small town of West Wendover, Nevada, my family and I are seeking to keep four hens in order to sustainably provide for our basic nutritional needs. This initiative not only aims to alleviate our family's egg requirements but also promotes a healthier lifestyle by ensuring fresh and organic produce directly from our backyard.

In light of the regular unavailability of eggs in our local stores, and the sometimes questionable quality of available products, having a few hens could massively benefit families like ours who are striving for better food security and quality.

Many suburban towns across the United States have successfully adopted policies allowing residents to keep a small number of hens, understanding the positive impact on family nutrition and sustainability. For instance, cities like Reno, NV and Salt Lake City, UT have instituted regulations supporting urban poultry with great success, allowing residents to keep up to 5 hens, subject to specific guidelines ensuring public health and safety.

Our proposal seeks to adopt similar regulations in West Wendover: allowing up to 4 hens per household, maintaining specific measures for cleanliness and containment to address any potential concerns of noise, hygiene, or space. These measures are designed to ensure that the welfare of the community is prioritized while granting support to families.

Implementing this change could improve community resilience in the face of shortages while empowering families to take ownership of an essential aspect of their nutrition. It aligns with larger sustainable living movements taking place countrywide, promoting responsibility, and offers educational opportunities for children to learn about sustainable farming practices.

Your support in signing this petition could be the catalyst for change in our community, fostering a more self-sustaining and health-conscious West Wendover. Please sign and help us bring this initiative to life.
