Why this petition matters

Started by Loralkie .

I think it's about time that we start with real talk.

New Zealand is thought throughout the world as a progressive country but yet we do not allow basic human instincts in prisons like inmates that have long term partners should be allowed the opportunity to be able to maintain that relationship with their significant other while incarcerated, this means allowing prisoners the right to intimacy with loved ones. Conjugal visits in other countries have proven to improve the mental health and behavior of inmates that are allowed this privilege while locked up and gives them some sense of normalcy while going through their sentence.

Why is it that even Australia has the conjugal visitation options in some states but New Zealand does not see this as a basic human need?

By signing this and getting the ball rolling  we can at least make a difference in helping our loved ones maintain a healthy relationship while incarcerated and help enable them to continue this once released.

The more people that sign this the better chance we have of taking this to the higher ups and getting this implemented in our prisons.

Prisoners need all the support they can get from family and friends and allowing them to have more visits for longer duration would be beneficial not only to them but for their family as well.
