The Issue

In my recent experience, something became incredibly clear to me that has motivated this petition. My teacher expressed her frustration when students approached her during JAG time asking for help with homework, as it is currently not an approved time to do so. Yet, many of us find this to be one of the few windows of opportunity we have to ask questions and seek guidance on assignments without adding to our already overwhelming workload at home.

WIN (What I Need) time, along with JAG time, is supposed to serve the purpose of meeting students' diverse educational needs. However, its potential is not fully realized if we are barred from using it for academic guidance on tasks we genuinely struggle with. Not only would allowing homework during WIN/JAG time alleviate stress on students, leaving more room for personal time after school, but it would also provide teachers with a receptive, smaller group eager for tailored instruction.

We understand that educational schedules are crafted with intention, but often these need pivots to reflect current realities rather than sticking to arbitrary frameworks. Making WIN/JAG time more flexible will not disrupt education goals but strengthen them by fostering an environment where students are heard and their needs addressed.

Let's advocate for a system that truly supports what WIN and JAG are meant to stand for: support and customization. Sign this petition to request our school administration to revise the restrictions on WIN/JAG time, enabling it to also allow homework discussions and help, truly meeting the diverse needs of our student body.
