Graduation is a major milestone that represents years of hard work, growth, friendships, and accomplishments. We grew up watching shows and family members decorate their graduation caps, many of us waiting for our time to do so as well. Allowing students to decorate their caps would empower each graduate with the small but meaningful opportunity to express their personality. Cap decorating fosters a stronger sense of community by giving students a creative outlet to honor families, friends, and teachers, while emphasizing interests, achievements, and future goals in personal and memorable ways. With authorized cap decorating, the graduation ceremony would be a better representation and celebration of the diverse community that each of the schools in GCPS has in their graduating class! We support doing this under reasonable, school-appropriate guidelines and approval to ensure our ceremonies remain respectful
