Allow former St. Rose of Lima Students to Visit

The Issue

As former students of St. Rose of Lima Elementary School in Mississauga, Ontario, we have fond memories of our time spent within those walls. Many of us returned, hoping to reconnect with the teachers and faculty members who played significant roles in shaping our formative years. Regrettably, our attempts to visit and stay connected with the school community were met with resistance. We have experienced the heartbreak of being asked to leave the premises, our efforts to visit the school curtailed by a safety policy requiring our escort off the property.

This petition is a heartfelt plea to St. Rose of Lima Elementary School and the school administration to allow us the freedom to visit without being subject to removal. Our school experiences were enriched by the relationships formed, and maintaining these bonds is important to us as we navigate through life.

Not only does allowing graduates to visit foster a strong, supportive community, it also enhances the student body's understanding of the success and progression of previous graduates. By witnessing the achievements of former students, current learners can be inspired to follow similar paths. These interactions serve as a bridge between past and present students, offering encouragement and vision for what's possible beyond elementary education.

There are numerous examples of schools across Canada successfully implementing graduate visitation policies. These policies markedly enhance community engagement and school pride without compromising safety or disrupting the educational environment. We propose developing a structured visitation policy for alumni of St. Rose of Lima Elementary School that ensures visits are coordinated, respectful of school operations, and enhance the school community experience.

Join us in advocating for a change that benefits both alumni and current students. Let's work towards opening the doors of St. Rose of Lima to those who cherish it, fostering connections that inspire and unite. Please sign this petition to ask school officials to implement a welcoming visitation policy for alumni. Support us in making St. Rose of Lima a beacon of community engagement and lifelong learning.
