Allow Florida Cities to Pass A Ban on Cigarettes in Public Parks and Beaches

Cigarette butts are the #1 type of litter worldwide! Not only are they an eye sore but they are toxic to our water supply. Attempts to get people to can their butts, including litter enforcement, usually fall short of solving the problem. Unfortunately in Florida, the state has passed a preemption disallowing any city from banning cigarette smoking in public places! A ban on banning...hmmmmm. We think city governments should be allowed to protect their citizens by banning cigarettes on public beaches and in city parks. Imagine your child building a sand castle only to have nasty, discarded cigarette butts end up in their masterpiece! Not to mention the detriment they pose to wildlife. Contrary to popular belief, cigarettes are not biodegradable as they are composed of plastic fibers! We ask that all of you please speak up and speak out against cigarette pollution and tell Florida to allow cities to protect their citizens from the toxic threat of cigarette litter as they see fit! Help us protect our world and Thank you!
