Allow electric vehicles on major roads in Naga City

The Issue

In Naga City, many residents rely on public transportation, but the costs can be prohibitive, particularly for middle to low-earning families. Electric vehicles, such as e-bikes, e-trikes, and e-cars, offer an affordable alternative, providing a cheaper and environmentally friendly means of commuting.

Currently, the use of these electric vehicles is restricted on key roads in and around Naga City, including Magsaysay, Panganiban, General Luna, the Diversion Road, and MT Villanueva. Opening these thoroughfares to e-vehicles would significantly alleviate daily commuting costs for countless families and contribute to a reduction in traffic congestion and pollution.

Approximately 80% of the city’s population belong to the middle and lower-income brackets, many of whom are burdened by the rising costs of transportation. Allowing e-vehicles access to major roads would directly benefit these families, enabling more efficient and affordable travel without sacrificing the environment.

Before other interventions become necessary, the time has come for policy makers to recognize the broad societal advantages electric vehicles provide. Enhanced road regulations and infrastructure planning should accommodate the presence of e-vehicles, promising not only savings for individual commuters but a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.

We call on the City Government of Naga and concerned authorities to revise current traffic ordinances to include provisions that permit e-vehicles on all roads—a simple adjustment with far-reaching positive outcomes. Signing this petition is a step toward promoting sustainable transportation and economic relief for thousands of residents. Please sign and support this important cause.
