As avid members of this hockey-loving community, we are let down by EDSA's decision to force teams into forfeiting in order to witness the Stanley Cup Final—an event that hasn’t happened in 18 years in our city. The unmatched enthusiasm for this monumental Game 7 is palpable across Edmonton, yet the decision made by EDSA shows an unfortunate disregard for our passion. EMSA, along with surrounding communities, has judiciously provided teams the opportunity to reschedule Monday night’s games, an accommodation that EDSA should consider. Historically, games that coincided with significant events were rescheduled, providing flexibility to players, managers, coaches, and referees (source: NHL statistical annual report). It is essential that our city bodies respect our dedication to this sport and the historic significance of this event. We request EDSA to reconsider their decision, let's allow our local teams the flexibility to reschedule their games, enabling them to be a part of this landmark event.
