Allow drop out students to attend year 12 formal as guests

The issue

I want to share a story that hits close to home. I had a friend who was excited about their year 12 formal, which should have been one of the most memorable nights of their high school experience. However, my friend left school during year 11 due to personal circumstances. Despite their decision to leave school, they remain a vital part of our friendship group and have worked hard to move forward and continue their education in alternative ways.

The issue is, my friend's former school, Tannum Sands State High School, enforces a rule preventing drop out students from attending year 12 formal events as guests. This rule is unique to this school within the Gladstone Region and has unfairly prevented former students from sharing in this special milestone with their friends.

Formals are quintessential high school events, offering students a chance to celebrate their achievements, bond with peers, and create lasting memories. Excluding past students, who still hold strong ties to their year groups, is both unfair and unnecessary. Allowing them to attend does no harm and, instead, enriches the collective experience for all.

We believe it's time for Tannum Sands State High School to reconsider this policy and join the rest of the Gladstone Region schools by including former students in these celebratory events. Such an adjustment would embrace the diversity and evolving journeys of each student's educational path, promoting inclusion and compassion.

By signing this petition, you can help us advocate for change and ensure that all students, regardless of their educational choices, can fully participate in these special occasions. Please sign and share your support to make Tannum Sands State High School's policy more inclusive.
