Every year, thousands of law-abiding immigrants working and living in the United States face an impossible choice: remain in the U.S. while aging parents suffer overseas, or travel home and risk being unable to return because of visa stamping delays.

Many of us are on employment-based visas such as H-1B and H-4. We maintain valid immigration status, pay taxes, contribute to our communities, and raise our children in the United States. Yet if we leave the country, we must often obtain a new visa stamp at a U.S. embassy or consulate before we can return.

Obtaining visa appointments abroad has become increasingly difficult in many countries. Families fear becoming stranded outside the United States for weeks or months, causing disruptions to employment, children’s education, and financial stability.

This issue has profound human consequences:

Children may be separated from one or both parents.
Families hesitate to visit critically ill or aging parents overseas.
Workers fear losing their jobs because they cannot return on time.
Legal immigrants experience significant emotional stress despite fully complying with U.S. immigration laws.

We respectfully urge the U.S. Department of State and Congress to:

Expand and permanently establish domestic visa renewal for eligible employment-based nonimmigrant visa holders.
Increase visa appointment availability at U.S. embassies and consulates.
Develop reliable emergency procedures for families facing serious medical emergencies or the loss of an immediate family member.
Reduce unnecessary travel burdens for individuals who have already undergone extensive background checks and continue to maintain lawful status.

This request is not about changing immigration laws or increasing immigration. It is about making the existing system more practical, humane, and efficient for families who are already legally living and working in the United States.
