The Issue

Dear Parks Department of NYC,

We, the undersigned, kindly request your attention and consideration regarding a matter that concerns many dog owners and enthusiasts in our community. We believe it is time to make a positive change that will benefit both our furry friends and the visitors of Brower Park. Our petition aims to allow dogs on the main lawn during designated "off-leash hours," specifically before 9am and after 9pm, when the park is typically less crowded.

We understand and respect the importance of maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all park visitors. Therefore, we propose the following reasons why this change would be beneficial for the park, dog owners, and the community as a whole:

  • A Designated Area for Dogs to Run: Currently, dogs in Brower Park don't have a dedicated space to run freely and release their energy. By allowing dogs on the main lawn during off-leash hours, they will have a specific area where they can exercise and play without interfering with other park visitors.
  • Limited Off-Leash Space: Allowing dogs on the main lawn during specific hours will help contain off-leash activities to a designated area. This means that dogs will be less likely to roam freely around the entire park, reducing the potential for interactions with park visitors who may not be comfortable around dogs.
  • Minimized Disturbance to Park Visitors: By having the main lawn accessible during off-leash hours, we ensure that the majority of park visitors will not be inconvenienced or disturbed. This compromise allows dogs to enjoy their freedom while minimizing any potential conflicts or disturbances during peak park usage.
  • Promoting Well-beings for Dogs: Dogs require exercise and socialization for their physical and mental well-being. Providing them with a designated area on the main lawn during off-leash hours will enhance their quality of life and overall happiness. A tired and content dog is less likely to exhibit behavioral issues, ensuring a safer park environment for all.
  • Fostering a Stronger Community: Broweer Park serves as a gathering place for residents of our community. Allowing dogs on the main lawn during off-leash hours encourages socialization among dog owners and promotes a stronger sense of community. This initiative provides an opportunity for dog owners to connect, share experiences, and potentially organize dog-related events, further enhancing community bonds.

We believe that by implementing this change, Brower Park will become an even more inclusive and enjoyable space for everyone. Our proposal takes into account the needs of both dog owners and park visitors while maintaining a balance that ensures the well-being and safety of all.

Therefore, we kindly request that you consider our petition and work towards allowing dogs on the main lawn during off-leash hours at Brower Park. We are confident that this change will be a positive step towards creating a harmonious environment for dogs, dog owners, and the entire community.

Thank you for your time, understanding, and consideration.
