The Issue

My son and another young boy from our community have found their passion in riding dirt bikes. This isn't just a pastime for them; it's a critical outlet that supports their mental health. Both of these young men have been through life-altering events that could easily have led them down a path of isolation and depression. Riding these bikes gives them joy, it connects them with the vibrant outdoor life, and it keeps them active and engaged in a meaningful way.

In Avalon, where residents cherish peace and the natural environment, we understand the need to balance between recreation and tranquility. No one is advocating for a free-for-all; rather, we ask for a thoughtful compromise. Therefore, we propose permitting dirt bikes and other gas-powered recreational vehicles within designated hours. This would allow enthusiasts to enjoy their passion responsibly, ensuring minimal disruption to others who might prefer quieter activities.

The benefits are not solely personal but extend to the community. Numerous studies show that outdoor activities like riding can improve mental health, providing an outlet for stress relief and increasing overall happiness and well-being. Encouraging our youth to engage in outdoor recreational activities counters the sedentary lifestyles that are becoming alarmingly prevalent.

Currently, Avalon has restrictions that may inadvertently curb these benefits for our youth, pushing them towards less healthy choices or idle boredom. I believe as a community we can craft a solution that accommodates both peace-loving residents and thrill-seeking explorers.

We respectfully urge local policymakers to consider these points and formulate a structured plan that supports both recreation and tranquility in Avalon. Help us maintain a community where everyone can thrive. Please sign this petition to let dirt bikes and similar recreational vehicles ride on, responsibly.
