Allow cordial in water bottles in schools

The Issue

My son's wellbeing is my top priority, and as a parent, I face a daily challenge — my child doesn't like plain water, and because his school doesn't allow cordial in water bottles, he often refuses to drink at school. Dehydration can have serious consequences on a child's health, from reduced concentration and fatigue to more severe health issues. I am concerned that my son's ability to focus, learn, and enjoy his school day is being compromised simply because of a policy that could be improved without any disadvantage.

Schools have a responsibility to ensure that students are in an environment conducive to learning, and hydration is a significant part of that environment. Research indicates that proper hydration is linked to improved cognitive performance and mood. Allowing a small amount of cordial in water bottles could encourage students like my son to drink more fluids throughout the day.

This isn't just about personal preference; it's a matter of ensuring children's health and optimizing their learning capabilities. Different children have different needs, and it is essential for schools to accommodate these needs wherever possible. A blanket policy on drinks overlooks the individual requirements of students and may inadvertently cause harm to those who struggle with drinking plain water.

We propose a straightforward, actionable solution: allow schools to let students bring in flavoured water with cordial as long as it meets certain health and safety standards. This ensures a balance between maintaining a healthy school environment and supporting children's diverse hydration needs.

Sign this petition if you believe every student deserves the opportunity to stay hydrated and focused in school without the unnecessary barrier of an inflexible drink policy. Together, we can encourage schools to rethink their current policies and make a small adjustment that could benefit children's health and educational performance.
