Allow Cigar Lounges in Ontario

Allow Cigar Lounges in Ontario
The Issue
Cigar Lounges should be allowed to exist in Ontario. ill defend this statement in an easy to digest format that will be point form.
- in a world class city like Toronto, it is against the law, to sit down, order a drink, and have it served to you while you enjoy a cigar.
- just like a bar an employee can stand guard to review ID and not allow minors in.
- any person entering the premises is a consenting adult that's coming to enjoy the luxury of a hand rolled articulate product. no different than enjoying a drink at a bar or restaurant.
- smoke free Ontario is overreaching in controlling what adults wish to do in the confidents of their own space. there is no reason someone can't enjoy a legal product in the comfort of an indoor space. any persons entering or working at such facilities are aware of the presence of smoke and are entering by their own decision.
- the harms of cigar smoking are greatly exaggerated and often compared to cigarette smoking which is incorrect. the truth in this has been proven in many studies. see below
-
There are risks involved with smoking cigarettes and there are risks involved with smoking too many cigars. It is still very difficult for people to understand that although there are risks involved with smoking too many cigars, these risks are vastly less life-threatening than those that you can catch through cigarettes. An NCI (National Cancer Institution) report done on cigars and cigarettes came out to determine that the risks are nowhere near the same between cigarettes and cigars. Cigars are proven to be much safer and as the NCI states for ‘casual’ cigar smokers: ‘“As many as three-quarters of cigar smokers smoke only occasionally,” the NCI noted, and “the majority of cigar smokers do not inhale.” The available data applies only to people who smoke at least one cigar a day, “the health risks of occasional cigar smokers . . . are not known”’. What this means is that casual cigar smokers do not face a real measurable health risk and it is basically safe to smoke 1 to 3 cigars a day with no risk (Thomas (n.d.) & FDA (n.d.), sources 1 and 2).
A Kaiser medical study that followed over 16 thousand men, which included new smokers, light smokers, and heavy smokers, for 25 years came to similar conclusions as above. Heavy cigar smokers include people who smoke 5+ cigars a day and moderate cigar smokers are those who smoke less than 5 cigars a day.
- other provinces are allowed to have cigar lounges like Montreal. and Alberta who recently decided to allow cigar lounges.
- enjoying a cigar has no mind-altering affects and won't cause any complications to ones or others safety in the establishment or from returning home from such business.
- proper ventilation and smoke eliminators can be installed to keep the air clean and prevent 2nd hand smoke.
- even non cigar smokers should have feelings toward this. it's a demonstration of overreach on our freedoms that can and will find its way into other businesses and hobbies.
- cigar lounges are widely successful and prevalent in other countries.
