Allow Candy Gallant to rehabilitate all PEI animals

Allow Candy Gallant to rehabilitate all PEI animals
The Issue
In 2021, Candy Gallant started the first private wildlife rescue in PEI, the famous home of the fictional Anne of Green Gables. (The other rehabilitation centre is a teaching hospital at Atlantic Veterinary Care). She can save many animals, but the province doesn’t allow her to save raccoons or coyotes. One sick and injured coyote in 2023 who was lost in a store was rescued but humanely euthanized by a veterinarian. It is probable they were too sick to be saved, but it would be nice to allow treatable coyotes and raccoons a second chance. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-coyote-kent-building-supplies-1.6730095
A similar case in Chicago had a happy ending when a coyote lost in a store was brought to a wildlife rehabilitation centre and released.https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/what-happened-to-coyote-pulled-from-shelf-at-chicago-aldi-store-latest-update/3645892/
Candy Gallant has been rehabilitating animals for years, and is good friends with thr world renowned wildlife rehabilitator Hope Swinimer. Candy Gallant will be able to rehabilitate raccoons and coyotes if the government allows a licensed and trained rehabilitation system for all wildlife, and bans trapping. Rabies is virtually non existent in PEI. Without a licensed facility for raccoons and coyotes, individuals may attempt to rehabilitate these animals themselves, resulting in habituated animals who may bite.
