Allow Bothell High School Teams to Participate in Out-of-State Competitions When Qualified

The Issue

Our journey begins with the remarkable Bothell High School cheerleading team—the 2024 state champions and the most decorated team within the prestigious Northshore School District here in Bothell, WA, USA. Over the last two years, these hard-working, dedicated students have rightfully earned the privilege to compete at the national level in California, bringing home a first-place victory their maiden year and securing a respectable placing the following year.

Yet, in a surprising twist, the Bothell High School administration is barring these champions from attending these essential, high-profile annual out-of-state competitions whenever they qualify. The administration insists on adherence to a vague policy that, does not seem to exist in writing and is unfairly enforced on these students without being implemented on other teams in the school stating that they are trying to be financially equitable. However,  the cheerleaders fundraise to cover all their costs, including those of athletes who are part of the 1660 program (financial support). Despite no funds coming from the school or district’s pockets they are choosing to impose this rule.

Through this petition, we appeal to the Bothell High School administration to revisit their decision and ensure fairness and equal opportunities for all teams, especially those which have accomplished significant achievements, such as our very own cheerleading team. By allowing our teams to participate in such competitions, we are not just recognizing their talent and hard work but also fostering mutual respect, fair play, and opportunities for every student athlete at Bothell High School.

It's time to let our champions shine in the field they have chosen and rightfully earned their seats in. Sign this petition today and join the fight for fair play and equal opportunities at Bothell High School for all students.
