Allow Bookbag Carrying in Grice Middle School
The Issue
The halls of Grice Middle School are overcrowded with students trying to make it to their next class on time, and I’m one of them. Like many of my fellow classmates, I struggle with the burden of carrying multiple books, binders, and other class materials. The lockers meant to ease this burden often become obstacles themselves–jamming, getting stuck, or being located far from my next class. It’s not uncommon to see students, including myself, requesting help from staff or other students to open stubborn lockers, which results in lateness more times than not.
In every passing period there’s a 3 minute time crunch. Moments spent wrestling with lockers could be better used reviewing class notes or preparing for the lesson ahead. But instead, students are frequently late, stressed, and often forget necessary supplies due to the no bookbag rule.
Allowing students the simple freedom to carry bookbags from class to class could improve this situation. It would not only save time but also reduce unnecessary stress and ensure that all students have their materials ready for each class. At a time when school resources and schedules can already put pressure on students, having a simpler, more efficient transition between classes should be an easy decision.
The reasons for this change are compelling: easing the burden of carrying books and class supplies, preventing tardiness, and reducing stress. It’s a logical solution that would benefit students, teachers, and our school community as a whole.
I ask parents and fellow students to please join me and sign this petition to allow bookbags to be carried to classes and throughout the day at Grice Middle School! Give us students the change we need for a better, more manageable school experience!
