Allow body contact in women's lacrosse

The Issue

Growing up with a passion for lacrosse, I've always been dismayed by the disparity in rules and opportunities between men’s and women’s lacrosse. The thrill of the game, the strategy, and the competition are universal, but why should our playing experience be limited by tradition? While men's lacrosse allows full-body contact, granting players a wider scope of physical expression and strategic opportunity, women’s lacrosse remains tethered to old conventions with limited physical contact.

For years, the rules governing women’s lacrosse have remained almost unchanged, despite the growing interest and demand for equality from players and  fans. It’s not just about wanting to play the same game as men; it's about having the option to choose. Many female players are interested in experiencing full-contact lacrosse, embracing the challenges and competitiveness it brings.

The current lacrosse infrastructure doesn’t accommodate women who wish to play full-contact. As a passionate lacrosse fan, I've found it difficult to locate a club that offers this form of the game for women, which significantly limits my and others' opportunities to play the sport we love in our preferred format.

Adopting full-contact options in women’s lacrosse would not only foster equality but also reflect the evolving nature of women's sports, highlighting our strength, agility, and tactical aptitude. As seen in other sports that have embraced gender equality in terms of rules and play styles, such a change would enhance the competitiveness of women's lacrosse, draw more fans, and encourage more young women to engage with the sport.

Let's push for a change that will empower female lacrosse players with the same choices as their male counterparts. Sign this petition to advocate for full-contact options in women's lacrosse, and let's bring a new era of equality, opportunity, and excitement to the field.
