Despite significant community support and outreach to city officials, zoning enforcement declined to pause enforcement while the matter is being reviewed. As a result, I was required to rehome my hens before the compliance deadline.

The Mayor has shared that the Commission will be discussing this issue in a public, broadcasted session to gather opinions and review the current ordinance language. I’m hopeful this conversation will bring much-needed clarification and, if necessary, revisions so residents who are attempting to follow the rules are not placed in difficult positions.

Additionally, I have a meeting scheduled Wednesday with Jeff Van Drew to discuss the broader concerns surrounding ordinance interpretation, enforcement consistency, and the impact on Millville families.

This issue goes beyond one household. Many residents keep small backyard flocks responsibly, and clearer guidance would benefit the entire community.
