Allow backpacks in classrooms
The Issue
Every passing period has the same issue: the scramble to dash to your locker, put down supplies, pick up your new supplies, and finally rush to your class hoping you have everything you need. This new policy, requiring students to put their backpacks in lockers, is more than just an inconvenience—it is making school far more stressful than it already is. The most aggravating part is when I forget something because of the rush and have a clipboard or disrupting other adolescents learning experience. It often results in me, and my peers, being late, disorganized, and getting in trouble just because it took us more than three minutes to completely shuffle through a stampede and reorganize ourselves.
This is personal but also it is extremely impractical to not allow backpacks in classrooms. Allowing backpacks in classrooms can lead to a more prepared, focused, and relaxed environment. It would reduce the learning time lost when we forget items, and it would ensure that we would not be late. Students would have everything they need in the classroom with them ensuring minimal disruption and amount of people roaming the hallways during class.
Some teachers will argue that having our phones, which are in our backpacks, in the class with us will be disruptive. For that issue, our idea is that our phones stay in our lockers but our backpacks with school supplies and materials are allowed to go into our classrooms with us. Our grade is the only grade with this rule even though we have been at Central the longest and are accustomed to bringing backpacks into our classes, as we have done that for our entire academic journey.
Please sign this petition to convince our teachers to allow backpacks in classrooms to relive us from extra stress that we don't have room for with our classes, after school activities, social lives, and preparation for high school.
