Allow backpacks and totes in Jonathon Dayton classrooms
Allow backpacks and totes in Jonathon Dayton classrooms
The Issue
As a student at Jonathon Dayton High School, I have firsthand experience with the challenges of not being able to carry backpacks or totes to class. For many of us, not having easy access to our personal items creates unnecessary stress and inconvenience.
Carrying around our textbooks, personal items, and school supplies in our hands or on our arms can be overwhelming, especially when moving between classes within the short time frames given. For students with medical conditions, the ability to have their medical equipment or medication readily available is crucial. Imagine having to contend with a medical emergency without quick access to necessary medication simply because our bags were not allowed!
A survey conducted at schools with similar policies showed that allowing students to bring backpacks led to a significant decrease in tardiness and improved overall student satisfaction. Moreover, neighboring schools such as Summit High School have implemented this policy with positive results, indicating it's a viable approach.
We propose the school administration considers this change by setting specific guidelines to maintain safety, such as restricting the size of bags or implementing random checks. These measures have proven successful at other institutions and could easily be put into practice at our school.
By allowing backpacks and totes in classrooms, Jonathon Dayton High can support its students' wellbeing, enhance academic performance, and create a more inclusive learning environment. It's time we adapt to the needs of the students and work towards a more practical and flexible policy.
Please join me in calling on the administration to update the school policy to allow backpacks and totes in the classroom, supporting all students at Jonathon Dayton High School. Sign this petition to make a change today.
