Allow Artistry on Graduation Caps in Omaha public schools

The Issue

Graduation is a monumental event in the life of every student, marking the completion of their high school journey. It is a day to celebrate and express our identity, achievements, and our hope for the future. At Omaha public schools, however, we are currently not allowed to customize our graduation caps, despite paying for them. Concerns arise from inappropriate designs seen on caps in the past. But we believe that the actions of a few shouldn't overshadow the wishes of the many. With proper guidelines in place, creativity can be channeled in a positive way, without causing any potential disturbance or harm. A school-wide survey could be used to ensure students understand what would be considered inappropriate, thereby minimizing the chance of violations. Personalizing our caps would give us a unique outlet to celebrate our academic journey. We urge Omaha public schools to reconsider their policy regarding graduation cap decorations and allow us to more fully express our joy and achievements at this significant moment in our lives. Please sign the petition and support student creativity and freedom at this important time in our schooling journey.
