Allow an Opt-Out Setting for Calories on Apple Watch

Allow an Opt-Out Setting for Calories on Apple Watch
The Issue
When searching how to turn off the calorie tracking feature on Apple Watch, numerous community posts as far back as 2018 ask the same question. Currently, Apple does not offer a way to disable the calorie information in the activity ring or within the fitness app. This constant awareness of calories is a harmful feature to many users. Users that have or had an eating disorder may be triggered into unhealthy eating or exercise habits from seeing a calorie count displayed constantly on their wrist.
According to the National Eating Disorder Association, 9% of Americans will struggle with an Eating Disorder in their lifetime, and Eating Disorders have the second highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness behind opiate addiction.
By signing this petition, you are standing up to Apple to say calorie information can be triggering and harmful to thousands of people. We are asking Apple to create a setting where people can opt out of viewing their calorie information in their activity ring and in the workout displays within the fitness app. Sign now to tell Apple “Some people are harmed by your practice. It’s time for change!”
Half of Americans know someone who struggles with an eating disorder. It is time to stand up for people who should not be subjected to their calorie counts on a daily basis.
