The Issue

As a responsible pet owner in our neighborhood, I understand the importance of keeping a safe and peaceful environment for both my family and the community. However, the current regulation limiting front fences to only 3 feet is inadequate for households with large dog breeds.*

My dogs, a lab/bloodhound mix and a pitbull mix, are wonderful companions, but they can easily clear this height. This poses a significant risk not only to my pets but also to my neighbors and anyone passing by. Increasing the allowance for front fences to 4 feet can mitigate several issues.

First and foremost, a higher fence would prevent my dogs from jumping over, thereby ensuring their safety and the safety of pedestrians. It’s also well-documented that dogs bark less and are less anxious when they see less through a barrier. A 4-foot fence could reduce noise pollution caused by passing distractions. This would create a quieter and more serene neighborhood ambiance.

Furthermore, a higher fence enhances privacy and acts as a barrier against stray dogs or loose pets, which can wander into private properties. This would lower the chances of unwanted encounters between animals, reducing potential altercations and injuries. Additionally, a 4-foot fence could deter human intruders, decreasing public safety concerns by lessening the likelihood of trespassing. By preventing access and visibility for would-be intruders, we protect our homes and reduce potential threats to our community.

Lastly, a 4-foot fence can help prevent dogs from leaving pet waste on neighbors' lawns, thereby reducing residual damage. This promotes healthier and cleaner communal spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Therefore, I respectfully urge our local authorities to amend the current regulations and permit front fences up to 4 feet in height. This change is crucial to maintaining safety, privacy, and peace in our neighborhood. Your support in signing this petition will be instrumental in convincing the decision-makers of this necessary adjustment.

*Please note that I do not leave my dogs unattended outside. These concerns do not arise from negligence.
