The Issue

*disclaimer* Any money donated does not go towards the boards themselves. They are “buying views” I apologize for any confusion. Please do not pay for views! I know first-hand the importance of inclusive communication aids that can help bridge the gap between our children and those around them. I am passionate about advocating for the installation of communication boards in all local parks within Marion County Tennessee.

Communication boards are simple yet powerful tools that empower nonverbal and minimally verbal children to express themselves, make choices, and interact with their peers. These boards typically display a series of pictures or symbols representing common items, actions, and expressions, allowing children to point to selections and convey their thoughts and needs.

The benefits of communication boards are substantial. According to research, nonverbal individuals using communication aids show improved social interactions and an increase in communicative exchanges. With approximately 1 in 31 children being identified with an autism spectrum disorder, many of whom face challenges with verbal communication, these boards become invaluable assets for inclusivity and equality.

Our local parks should be spaces where every child, regardless of their ability to verbalize, can play, learn, and engage fully. Erecting communication boards would not only cater to the needs of these children but also educate and sensitize the community about diverse communication needs.

We call upon the local government and community leaders of Jasper to allocate the necessary funds for this initiative, ensuring that all public parks are equipped with communication boards. Such an investment would signify a commitment to inclusivity and could inspire other communities to take similar steps.

Sign this petition to support equal opportunities for communication for all children in Marion county. Your support can drive tangible change and provide hope and encouragement to many families like mine, striving for a more inclusive and understanding society.
