Save Cumbernauld Theatre

The Issue

I have lived in Cumbernauld my whole life and always enjoyed visiting Cumbernauld Theatre for wonderful, innovative forms of entertainment ranging from music to drama to simply finding out about the theatre's heritage. It is incredible that the building has been preserved for over 50 years and is still in use till this very day. However, I recently found out the building was going to be abandoned for a new theatre in Cumbernauld Academy and I find it rather upsetting.

I feel like a building such as Cumbernauld Theatre should not be simply abandoned or knocked down just to create a bigger hall in a school for people to attend to. The building was created from old farming cottages in the 60's and the surrounding landscape is simply beautiful. It is surrounded by serene fields, a tranquil glen and community orientated allotments. Cumbernauld Theatre is a retreat for anyone looking to escape to talent, without it, we are stuck in a school hall, wondering what happened to the gorgeous cottages that lived among true nature and happiness.

Our community in Cumbernauld is strong and we need to stop the building, and its history, from being knocked to the ground. Must we lose such a beautiful and strong building that other have worked so hard to create and maintain? We must stand up for our own personal legacy of creativity and save it from being turned into another classroom in an Academy.

It's time to stand up for this building and save it for all generations, please don't let us be the ones known for destroying it.
