Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) causes over 350,000 death per year. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can increase the chance of surviving SCA by 70%. The chances of survival from SCA decreases 7-10% for every minute that passes for someone in SCA. The Thames Valley District School Board did not participate in the National Heart and Stroke Foundation program to fund AEDs (including training and maintenance). As a result, there is a significant gap in how many AEDs are present in the school Board relative to other school boards in Ontario. In TVDSB, only 7 of 130 elementary schools and 9 of 27 high schools have them. Other boards such as Avon-Maitland and Lambton-Kent have AED's in EVERY SCHOOL. Andrew could have been saved if an AED was available - how many more people need to die needlessly? Help us make the changes that need to be made to keep our communities safe.
