All students in Texas should have at least 45 minutes as a free period

All students in Texas should have at least 45 minutes as a free period

The Issue

All students in Texas should have a 45 minute free period, (at least that long) excluding lunch . We already have the basis for this system advisory, but that can feel limiting and it dosnt offer the same benefits that totally come with a free period. Students don’t get nearly enough sunlight or free time as they are suppose to, students should not be held from sunlight for 6,7,8+ hours in a day, it brings them home with built up stress (that usually gets taken out on the parent). By free period i mean a period where you can go to the library, walk around the hallway, go on your phone, go outside, catch up with friends, and just overall talk. Some more advantages is that students have more time to study before exams. Students will be more focused in class because they’ve been allowed 45 minutes to do what they want which will lead to overall higher test scores. Students can also talk out the conflict they have between each other without feeling rushed with the fear of being tardy to class. Free periods do not mean that you have lost control of your students it just means they get to do what they want for just at least 45 minutes.
