We all know how destructive it is not to be able to have dogs in our rental units. As we all know it means more dogs we could have saved are subject to kill shelters and poor/sad/unhealthy/lonely living conditions, even in the non-kill shelters who kindly do their best.

I believe strongly we need our local, state and federal government to support, fund, legally demand and actively enforce a new shelter-animal safety movement to support their adoptions into more safe & loving homes faster and more permanently.

I know I wanted to have a dog to love decades ago but was never allowed a “pet” in my apartments. I only qualified to have an amazing rescue dog in my life once I suffered PTSD and basically needed one for medical/sanity reasons; with a doctor’s note and a registered licenses showing he truly is my microchipped, neutered, life-saver - who has had all his annual shots. We should not need these “medical assistant” proofs to have these amazing angels by ALL our sides.

I say let’s allow up to 3 per resident in units up to 1,000 sq ft or 6 per rental household over 1,000 sq ft. There can be a charge up to $200 per dog as a security deposit - to be fair. We must be conscientious towards everyone from the rescue dogs to our neighbors to the landlords’ property, and have our rescues somewhat formally trained to save everyone from giving up on any poor-behaviors {ie: For example our local “PetSmart” store has weekly training programs for about $100 per dog, plus some available discounts in their coupon booklets.}
