Social Media, Disclosure of Edits and Alterations

The Issue

Social Media is so influential on us as a society, we all know of the unrealistic and misleading beauty standards portrayed online by influencers and celebrities. There is a huge push at the moment for people to post unedited and raw content, to help people grow their confidence, however as some people are not comfortable posting unedited content, this is not going to stop. So, in order for social media to become as transparent and open as possible, I am petitioning for there to be a mandatory disclaimer for all users who upload content to answer, to allow for them to disclose if edits have been made to their content. It will be a simple yes or no answer.

If yes, this disclaimer will appear below or next to the photo, not in an obvious way but just to allow anyone who is viewing the content to put it into perspective and rid the smoke screen that social media currently has.

This will of course be at the trust and discretion of the person posting the content, we will have to rely on people being truthful. This I think will reduce the compulsion for people to compare themselves to online content and to be able to enjoy what they see without questioning their own worth.
