Better access to psychological care

The issue

Medicare support for psychological care is limited to just ten visits. To get help, people need a GP diagnosis of a mental disorder which stays in their medical file. If we are serious about addressing mental health, then we need a more flexible way to access psychological care, free from stigma and red-tape.

We call on our political leaders to change Medicare as follows:

  1. Access to 5 visits of psychological care without a GP referral.
  2. Flexible assessment criteria for a Mental Health Care Plan which do not require a diagnostic label.
  3. Access to at least 6 months of psychological care with a Mental Health Care Plan, rather than a fixed number of appointments. Review and ongoing referral when appropriate to ensure continuity of care.

For more info please read our statement or visit us on Facebook.

If you support us and have additional suggestions for change, please leave your suggestion as a comment when you add your name to the petition. We will note down all good suggestions and report back on what you told us at the final tally.
