Change school borders

Change school borders

The Issue

Riley elementary school is a small school in Arlington Heights, IL that is doing very well academically.
Currently, the students from Riley transition to London Middle school for 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

We are requesting to change the borders/zoning so that Riley school students continue on to the Cooper middle school instead.

The reasons are the following:
1. London middle school is about 5 miles away from Riley. Cooper is only 3.5 miles away.
Most families are inconvenienced due to this increased distance. Especially families with multiple children that
have to attend both Riley and currently London.

2. Riley students feed into Buffalo Grove High School which is also doing very well academically.
The majority of Cooper middle school students also continue onto Buffalo Grove High.
However, the vast majority of London middle school students continue onto Wheeling High school.

3. The primary reason for the change request is due to the low scores that London get's compared to the average in our
vicinity. This has had an adverse affect on the property values in our local neighborhood. By making the recommended border
change to allow Riley students to go to Cooper, the average middle school score will jump by 1 to 2 full points. This will have a positive effect on property valuations and will subsequently increase revenue for the village.

Overall, we believe that an elementary school rated between 9-10, going to a highschool which is also rated 10, why would it have a middle school rated 6?
