Sarnia Police Service needs to be investigated and held accountable.

Sarnia Police Service needs to be investigated and held accountable.
The Issue
Sarnia police service (SPS) has been doing some shady work/press releases. With research, I have come to find out a constable at SPS has been arrested and charged. “The Chatham-Kent service has charged Constable Ryan LeBlanc with break and enter to commit mischief.” The link can be found here regarding the incident: https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fblackburnnews.com%2Fsarnia%2Fsarnia-news%2F2021%2F02%2F17%2Fcity-police-constable-charged-alleged-property-dispute%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR0njScRCkcn1LFsWa3FamhAmLpOErg4sGbK8NeXq8u3Qq30cSndM_Fckpo&h=AT1OyBc3u2Jd2nRUCCq4HnjFmSl7ylyLwuW4YHftGFzbY2sG1hjHri__5h9yzHjZm3ii4UG8KLqpNVSPmA0bfcukhawsmbUffjORciWs5qQB2MJftscox6_3WP_V&s=1
Yet, he is still on duty in the community and getting paid. not only has this been a downfall to the SPS, but the “ongoing” investigation regarding officer McCabe Wyville is extremely disappointing and leaves many questions such as what is still “ongoing” and leaves us to wonder when the Chief of Police is going to follow the orders that were given to him by the Ministry of Labor which was to provide the Ministry a copy of the report to ensure the investigation was done in a fair and unbiased manner. The withholding of the report alone raises serious questions.
McCabe-Wyville’s lawyer, Gary Bennett, a copy of orders from the Ministry of labor that state they were issued during a site visit on Oct. 28 2020, ordering the Sarnia Police Service is required to inform the complainant in writing about the results of an investigation, conduct a risk assessment and develop a return-to-work-safety plan, and to review workplace harassment policies at least annually, which wasn’t happening at the time.
“The service and human resources made several efforts and have continued to explore options for safe return to work,” Hansen said. “However, we couldn’t complete this work in its entirety until we received the findings and recommendations of this investigative report.” This statement by Chief Hansen is incorrect. There has been no attempt to accommodate Staff Sergeant McCabe-Wyville or Staff Sergeant Mamak safe return to work. As late as November 27th 2020, Chief Hansen refused to accommodate Staff Sergeant McCabe Wyville stating she could only return to work in her current role as a staff sergeant in charge of a platoon which would put her in the same building as the officer who has assaulted and has been harassing her. In fact, both officers have been trespassed from the property after writing a letter to the police services board demanding help and a third-party investigator to come in. This by no means is attempting to accommodate the safe return of either officer.
In a statement issued by lawyer Gary Bennett, Mamak outlines being a police officer in Sarnia for 29 years and facing racism by “being called names to my face, officers imitating what they believed to be an East Indian accent, jokes and being put down because of my race, being told I was just there to add some colour and that I would never be a real police officer.”
He said he was labelled a troublemaker because he complained about this treatment and was threatened with dismissal.
“(I was) forced to be off duty to protect my well-being (and) banned from the police service.” He said.
It is extremely heavily hearted and disappointing that racism and abuse is being downplayed and dismissed while the victims continue to be blamed and are on unpaid leave for their safety and mental health. This does not support the claims that Chief Hansen has publicly stated about working with the officers for their safe return to work, however, it is indicative of the toxic work environment within the Sarnia Police Service.
If you are with #avillageforwyville #WeBelieveYouJaime then please sign this petition, let the city of Sarnia know your concerns about our Police Service, not only for what is going on INSIDE the police department, but outside. There have been many different people who have commented on different posts stating about their own personal experience with the Sarnia Police and now is our time as a community to push for the change we all deserve. If there is this much inside, who knows what else there could be. We need to come together, as taxpayers, a community, and a family to demand answers for what is going on and why this is happening opposed to the withholding of documents by the Sarnia Police Chief. Just released/Update: further information/coverage on the situation reported how the offending officer was told not to contact Jaime McCabe-Wyville. On Feb 13th, 2021 the offending, Insp. Dwayne Whelpley had called her at 1:44am.
the OPP was called, and if the harassment continues he will be charged with criminal harassment.
everything the Chief of sarnia police says wasn’t happening, and didn’t happen, and ISN’T happening, is happening.
