Justice For Nasser
Le problème
"IFJ Unconditional Support for Nasser Abu Bakr"
The IFJ elected representatives voted unanimously to support their comrade Nasser Abu Bakr, President of the Palestinian Journalists' Union (PJS) and a member of the IFJ Executive Committee, who was dismissed from his job at the AFP for serious misconduct, despite the fact that he was only carrying out his trade union duties in defence of his Palestinian sisters and brothers.
Following the report of the General Secretariat and in view of the unacceptable situation in which Nasser Abu Bakr finds himself today, on Tuesday 8 June the IFJ Administrative Committee calls on:
- All IFJ Executive Committee members and affiliates in 150 countries around the world to write to AFP management in Paris to oppose the trade union discrimination against Nasser Abu Bakr that has been practised for several years by successive AFP managements;
- All IFJ Executive Committee members and affiliates in 150 countries around the world to sign the online petition in support of Nasser Abu Bakr until 4 July 2021;
- All IFJ Executive Committee members and affiliates in 150 countries around the world to support the elected IFJ leadership and the General Secretariat as they explore all possible national and international legal means to enforce trade union rights with the support of the Global Union Federations (over 200 million members).
