Team Nature: Backyard Organics

The Issue

 Backyard Organics

The project "Backyard Organics" is created by Senior High School Students who endeavors to uplift the lives of the indigenous community in Porac, Pampanga.

It aims to gather enough funds to procure seedlings, fertilizers and equipment that will benefit the Aeta society. Aetas are one of the biggest ethnolinguistic groups in the Philippines living in different mountainous places in Luzon. They are indigenous and their ancestors were the aborigines from Australia. Aeta’s primary livelihood is the farming and production of rice, sweet potato, and purple yam.

Amidst pandemic times, our ethnic brothers and sisters are severely affected since they cannot go out to gather non-timber products used in farming. Societal restrictions also prevent them access to commerce centers unless they are fully vaccinated.

As natural farmers, supplying them with the essentials is of utmost priority. This project also considers the global warming phenomenon. A proactive approach of planting more trees and crops will greatly aid Mother Earth as it generates income and opportunities for the marginalized sector.
