Bring Lord Janner to trial on child sex charges, or have a trial of facts instead.

Lord Greville Janner is accused of multiple acts of child sex abuse. The police investigated him many times, both when he was a Labour MP for Leicester and a member of the House of Lords, and the Crown Prosecution Service now admits they should have brought charges in 1991, 2002 and 2007. In the latest investigation by Leicestershire Police, over 25 people were interviewed who said they had been abused by Janner.

However the Crown Prosecution Service has now decided not to bring Janner to trial owing to his dementia, a move condemned by the police and victim support agencies. This is despite many other suffers of dementia having been charged (and convicted) of sex offences in the past and despite the fact that Janner was competent enough to sign a letter on Parliamentary business only a few days ago.

This petition demands that Janner be brought to face trial. If he genuinely cannot defend himself owing to his illness, we demand both (a) "a trial of facts" (where a jury hears the evidence without him) and (b) a full enquiry into the cover-ups that led to the failure to prosecute earlier.

Anything less than this would be a massive failure of justice - for both sides.

And now the legal bit we have to put in by law: This petition is hosted by It is published and promoted by Alan Fox on behalf of Adrian Barnes and Dave Raval (Leicester Liberal Democrats) both at 59 St Albans Rd, Leicester LE2 1GF
