Alice Springs Town Council: Declare a climate emergency

Alice Springs Town Council: Declare a climate emergency
The Issue
Our beautiful town is facing significant weather changes that are already effecting its liveability, sustainability and natural ecology.
- Last summer was the hottest on record in Mparntwe/Alice Springs
- In December, Mparntwe/Alice Springs had its hottest day on record reaching 45.6°C
- January 2019 was Australia's hottest-ever month on record
That's why I am calling on Alice Springs Town Council to declare a climate emergency. I am calling on my local council to respect the will of the people and embrace climate action.
As residents, former residents or friends of Mparntwe/Alice Springs, we request that you declare a climate emergency and implement an action plan. This would demonstrate a concrete commitment, a willingness to stand together and fight to prevent the largest threat of our times.
Let's follow in the footsteps of Darebin Council in Melbourne who became the first council in the world to recognise the climate emergency in December 2016. Thousands of councils have since followed suit including 38 Australian councils such as Darwin City Council and Adelaide City Council - so why not ours?
Please, sign and share this petition and send a strong message:
Save us from a climate crisis. Declare a climate emergency, today.
