Greetings tree lovers- thank you all for the continued signing and sharing of this petition- we are up to nearly 2,000 signatures now! If you're wondering what to do next, here are two ideas. First, an idea from a signer of this petition- one way to draw more attention to the tree's plight is to submit a City of Alexandria Notable Tree Nomination Form. Typically this form is for trees on personal property, but I think in this case it's still a good way to tell the city how important this tree is. A link to that form is below.

Second, and more importantly- next Monday, August 17th, the ACPS is hosting a virtual meeting to discuss the Parker-Gray Stadium Modernization Project. Obviously this is a great way for our voices to be heard. Please log on and speak up if you can. At the very least, if the meeting does not offer enough opportunity for everyone to be heard, find another way to display your opinion- such as changing your Zoom name to "Save the Witness Tree" or displaying a picture of the tree. The ACPS School Board claims that in 2018 the removal of the tree was publicly discussed, something many people have told me they simply don't remember. This time we KNOW the plans for the tree, and hopefully can express our disdain for their plans. ACPS says the link for the meeting will be posted online the day before, along with updates. Notice that the page already includes an update from July regarding the tree. I view this as a good sign- enough attention had been drawn that they felt the need to speak up on the matter- so let's keep making them question the wisdom of this decision!
